What is it that makes all the big entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, and Bill Gates tick - the things that make them different from the other? You will see when you compile all the big names together and more that there are certain traits and actions that all these people take in order to split them from the others.
It’s no secret the deep down all of us want to be successful - however, most of us forget to see that success is really a science. Often we are so caught up in the belief that successful people have some sort of special gift and that we can never be those people. If you have ever read biographies of these great men and women you’ll see that many of them started in very humble beginnings.
So why not just you and me hit big? Well for starters it’s very hard work! Also, we live in a time where ideas and knowledge get passed around the internet like a joint at a Pink Floyd concert. So how do you know what to trust? Obviously, it’s about time we turn to the most successful people their behaviors and traits and effectively model them.
Let's See Where You And I Size Up Against The Bigshots
After you read over the traits, take a moment to consider them and whether or not you size up to each of these. I think you’ll find that in each of them, you probably aren’t far from the mark. These are traits in all of us - traits that we can use and master. After all, someone who has become a master in something has just taken a task very simple and basic and perfected it. Mastery of all these traits will result in a successful work and personal life
1. PASSION
Name one entrepreneur that doesn’t love what he is doing with every fiber of his body… I’ll wait. All of these people have been consumed by a reason to devote themselves into whatever work they choose to do. Most successful entrepreneurs would often be called obsessive or tenacious when it comes to their passion. It gives them the fuel that powers their success train and allows them to tap into their potential. There is no greatness without a passion to be great. It’s passion in the face of adversity that overcomes when everyone denies. This is an essential first trait for every successful entrepreneur.
2. BELIEF
When you take a look at every religion or every major following that puts absolute faith into something - you see the potential and the power of faith and belief. Self-doubt breeds nothing but constant failure and stoppage of growth. We are what we believe and if you set limitations on your future you will create those limitations. Many people who are passionate but put limitations on what they believe they can do and who they are, they never take action in life that could make their dream a reality.
Passion and belief provide the fuel and power for excellence but it doesn’t matter how good your plane or pilot is - if you don’t have a destination you will just be flying around in circles. That is why it is essential for a successful entrepreneur to have…
3. STRATEGY
A strategy is essentially the playbook of a team. Every great coach, entrepreneur, teacher, or politician knows that just simply having resources isn’t enough. It’s about effectively organizing and implementing these resources in such a way to maximise output. Afterall, all a great leader is, is someone who can take the resources at their disposal and use it to its maximum potential to achieve a goal they have in mind. A strategy is the implementation of excellence into the correct avenue - instead of wasting time and energy trying to kick the door down, it’s the key that opens it and leaves it completely intact.
4. CLARITY
Clarity of judgment, character, views, morals, ethics etc. Clarity is knowing with every fiber in you what your direction and purpose are. Complete confidence in the fundamental building blocks of what makes a good leader. Every successful entrepreneur was certain of themselves and their values, they used this to their advantage by being decisive and taking action all stemming from their clarity. Many people do not have a clear idea of what important to them. This leads people to do things that make them unhappy and afterward they regret. Everyone has different visions, but every great entrepreneur has in common a fundamental moral grounding and a reason behind why they are doing what they do.
As you can probably see at this point; all these traits lead on from one another.
5. ENERGY
Donald Trump talks about energy non-stop, “America needs someone with high energy!”. People of excellence will take every opportunity presented, they are constantly looking for the next edge and they are always on the tip of their toes and the edge of their seat - ready. People often think luck happens to those who are fortunate, however, I believe the harder the work, more opportunities and more luck will simply flow your direction.
Successful entrepreneurs are known to look after themselves and invest in themselves immensely because they know vitality is important to energy and growth. You can have every one of these traits but if you lack in energy you will be trampled by the herd. You can’t climb the mountain of success when you are out of energy.
6. MASTERY OF COMMUNICATION
The way we communicate is everything! It controls how we see the world and how the world sees us. I would ever go as far as they say the way we communicate with people ultimately controls the quality of our lives. The people who shape and control our society are also master communicators. Think of people like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, and even in some more of a grim way, even Hitler. Massive change and massive success is the product of effective and strategic communication. Communication put simply is taking the skills you’ve learned, translating that into words and using it to yours and others advantage.
What To Take Away
In theory, if you master of all these traits of successful entrepreneurs you will become one, In practice, however, you will need to constantly revisit and re-tweak and always ask yourself questions about what you are doing and whether or not you are applying and communicating these traits effectively.
All success started with passion, then was followed by firm belief, then strategy was used to direct these propellants, then clarify guided the rocket to its target, energy kept it going, and finally, communication was the trait that allowed it all to come together and translate into the material world.
It starts with desire and passion - check out my other blogs on how you can create a greater motivation, which will spark your passion for excellence if you haven’t done that yourself already. Goodluck future entrepreneurs!
