Arsenal and Chelsea have agreed a £15million fee plus bonuses and add-ons for Olivier Giroud. According to Sky Sports Italia, the deal will not be completed until the Gunners finalize Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund. On Monday night, Italian football expert, Gianluca DiMarzio, confirmed that talks between the two London clubs “are progressing well”. Giroud was pictured in Arsenal training on Monday, ahead of their Premier League trip to Swansea City on Tuesday, in deep discussion with manager Arsene Wenger. Antonio Conte is in search of a target man in the winter transfer window. The window closes 11pm on January 31.

LaLiga President, Javier Tebas has confirmed that controversial technology, VAR, will be used in the Spanish top flight from next season. According to Tebas, the LaLiga management are doing everything possible for the technology to arrive on time before the beginning of next season. He said the Spanish league will try their hand at VAR as a bid to eradicate refereeing errors continues. “Next season there will be VAR,” Tebas told Spanish reporters. “We are doing our best and we will ensure it arrives on time. “With the VAR, some moments in the Barcelona and Alaves game, for example, would’ve changed,” he said.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to travel to London by today, to undergo his medicals with Arsenal and complete a 55million move to the Emirates. The Gunners agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the Gabon striker on Monday, but are seeking a replacement before they officially sanction the move. According to reports to Germany, Dortmund are closing on Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on a six-month loan deal. There is no agreement with the Blues yet and they might yet turn to Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. With the German transfer window closing midday on Wednesday, the Bundesliga club are expected to bring in one of the two strikers and give Aubameyang permission to leave. Aubameyang will become Arsenal’s record signing, as well as the highest-paid player in their history. He will sign a £180,000-a-week three-and-a-half year deal. Aubameyang is also expected to take the no. 14 shirt vacated by Theo Walcott and previously worn by Thierry Henry.

A Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has awarded N5.9 billion “special damages” against Multichoice Nigeria Limited in an eight-year-old copyright infringement legal battle between the South African firm and the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria Ltd./GTE. In a judgment on Friday, Mohammed Idris, the judge, struck out Multichoice’s claims against the defendant, the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria Ltd. (MCSN)/GTE. The judge said, “The court having delivered judgment this 19th day of January, 2018, striking out the plaintiff’s claims, it is hereby ordered as follows: That judgment is entered in favour of the defendant/counter-claimant in the following terms: N5,490,652,125.00 only as special damages.” The court also awarded separate sums of N200 million and N309 million as general and aggravated damages respectively against Multichoice in favour of the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria Ltd./GTE. Sergi Roberto has signed a three-year contract extension with Barcelona, tying him to the leaders of La Liga until 2022, the club announced on Friday. Barcelona said the deal included a 500 million-euro ($614 million) buyout clause for the 25-year-old, whose existing deal was due to expire in 2019. Spanish press reports said that deal had included a buyout clause worth just 30 million euros, a figure that made them vulnerable to approaches from rival clubs. The announcement comes just a day after Barcelona revealed that Gerard Pique had extended his contract by three years to 2022.

Brazil legend Pele is in hospital after collapsing on Thursday with exhaustion. The 77-year-old was due to travel to London this weekend for a dinner held in his honour by the Football Writers Association (FWA). Pele – the only player to win three World Cups – “has undergone a series of tests which appear to point to severe exhaustion”, said the FWA. “He is on fluids while doctors monitor his recovery. Thankfully there is no suggestion of anything more serious.” Pele has been taken to hospital for kidney and prostate problems in recent years.
