US healthcare: Senate 'skinny repeal' bill fails

The latest attempt to repeal the Obama-era healthcare act has failed after a dramatic night in the US Senate. At least three Republicans - John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski - voted against the bill, which needed a simple majority to pass. President Donald Trump  said  the three had "let the American people down". The so-called "skinny" repeal, which would have scaled back some of the more controversial provisions, is the third failed attempt to repeal Obamacare. It would have resulted in 16 million people losing their health insurance by 2026, with insurance premiums increasing by 20%, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Former Minister of Aviation during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign now. In a series of tweets form his twitter handle, Fani-Kayode said that with the pictures posted by the various visiting governors to Buhari in London, the president would need to quit the office. In one of the tweets, Fani-Kayode said, “Buhari!, resign, go home and rest.” On Wednesday, seven governors, including two governors from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had visited the recuperating president in London. They were excited that the president had improved very well and that it is a matter of time, he would be back home to continue with his national assignment. BUHARI HAS IMPROVED VERY WELL – PDP GOVERNOR

Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Dave Umahi has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has improved very well as he described the rate of his recovery as a miracle. Umahi is one of the two governors from the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP that visited the president in London on Wednesday. There were seven governors chosen from the six geopolitical zones, including the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari. Nigeria Naira Appreciates To N364 Per Dollar In Parallel Market

The Nigeria naira yesterday appreciated further to N364 per dollar in the parallel trade showcase because of frail interest for dollar. Naijcrackgist survey revealed that the parallel market exchange rate fell for the second consecutive day to N364 per dollar yesterday from N365 per dollar on Tuesday. This translated to N1 appreciation for the naira. Similarly the naira appreciated by 90 kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window, as the indicative exchange rate dropped to N368.6 per dollar yesterday from N369.5 per dollar on Tuesday. Data by the Financial Market Dealers Quote (FMDQ) showed that the volume of transactions dropped by 58 per cent to $75.32 million from N182.3 million on Tuesday.
